In the news this week were more stories from the front lines of Trump’s war on immigrants, from a detained Florida Dreamer with Down Syndrome to parents who were arrested by ICE at their son’s military funeral to a mother who was detained after taking her four-year-old son to the hospital for emergency surgery. Meanwhile, Congressional Republicans have been getting behind a “Queen of the Hill” legislative maneuver for the Dream Act — but it’s all just a show unless they also push for a discharge petition or another approach that will actually force their leadership to call for a vote.
2018 is an election year, and we spoke to political science professor Melissa Michelson about what some of the best messages and techniques are for getting out the Latino vote. Professor Michelson has conducted more than 300 studies designed to boost voter outreach.
