America’s Voice Responds to Cloture Vote on Corker-Hoeven Amendment

Today the Senate cleared an important procedural hurdle.  The cloture vote on the amendment sponsored by Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and John Hoeven (R-ND) passed, by a 67-27 margin. A vote on passage of this amendment is now set to take place on Wednesday, followed by another crucial cloture vote and then final passage of the bill on Thursday.

Following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice:

This vote strongly suggests that immigration reform is on track to pass by more than a 2-1 margin later this week.  It means that 11 million immigrants, including Dreamers and others, are much closer to the day when they can live freely and contribute fully to the country they call home.  Americans are much closer to having a working immigration system they can be proud of.  And House Republicans are much closer to their moment of truth.  They either find a way to pass reform or find themselves blamed for blocking it.  The ability of the GOP to be competitive in national elections depends on Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and company getting it right and getting it done.
