This week we’re publishing the third episode of our new podcast, “A is for America”, with special guest Zenen Jaimes Peréz, Communications Director of the Texas Civil Rights Project. Listen below or tune in via iTunes, Google Play, or your favorite podcast app.

This week, Congressional Republicans once again failed to pass the Dream Act while the White House once again spent time demagoguing against safe cities, and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach faced contempt of court hearing over his behavior in the ACLU-brought court case against his voter ID law.

Meanwhile in Texas, one of the most anti-immigrant laws in the nation, SB 4, has been cleared for implementation. Our Texas State Director Mario Carrillo sat down with Zenen Jaimes Perèz (at 9:30 in the audio below) to talk about SB 4, what it will mean for the state, and how such a bill came to be passed in the first place. They also discuss Texas’ voter ID law and how extensively Texas Republicans have worked to oppress voters, especially voters of color, in the Lone Star state.

“A is for America” is a podcast which tells stories from the front lines of a changing America. Each week, we’ll be talking to immigrants, advocates, and experts working in immigration reform, immigrants’ rights, immigration politics, and the forefront of what it means to be a new American. Tune in next week for more.
