The Wall Street Journal is reporting that House Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is urging his Party to delay action on immigration reform until at least 2015.
According to Lynn Tramonte, Deputy Director of America’s Voice:
Coming from California, you’d think Rep. Kevin McCarthy would get the politics of immigration better than some others. By counseling delay, he’s throwing Republicans like Reps. Jeff Denham (R-CA) and David Valadao (R-CA) under the bus and risking the long-term existence of the national GOP. He should study up on California history, particularly the chapter on Pete Wilson and the aftermath of Proposition 187. Every day the House delays action on immigration reform—and every election cycle they enter with the issue unresolved—the GOP’s anti-immigrant and anti-Latino brand gets further entrenched. The demographic realities are relentless and clear.
