Beto O’Rourke pledges to fight against separating families seeking safety in America

During a CNN town hall with Dana Bash, Congressman Beto O’Rourke condemned President Trump’s zero-tolerance policy — the cruel strategy responsible for the separation of hundreds of families. O’Rourke, facing incumbent Ted Cruz in a marquee Senate race, was asked by a member of the audience what he would do as Senator now that President Trump is considering restarting the practice of ripping children from their parents. His answer — passionate and pointed — is why so many Texans are enthusiastic about his candidacy. It’s worth a look.

According to Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice;

Voters want authenticity and clarity. We want candidates who have strong values and views, and express them powerfully and unapologetically. Beto O’Rourke is a Democrat running statewide in a red state against an incumbent. Yet, he doesn’t rely on focus grouped soundbites or mealy-mouthed vagaries. Instead, he speaks eloquently — and shows up in person — to denounce the horrors of family separation, the cruelty of threatening Dreamers with deportation, and the importance of bringing Texans of diverse backgrounds together to lift one and all. Democrats would be wise to learn from his example.
