The following is a statement from Pili Tobar, Managing Director of America’s Voice, reacting to the White House meeting earlier today between President Trump, Sen. Schumer, and Minority Leader Pelosi:
President Trump just made it clear that if the government shuts down, it’s his fault. We couldn’t agree more. Even after the American people rejected Trump’s agenda and rhetoric in the 2018 midterms, Trump continues throwing the same tantrums insisting that taxpayers pay for an unpopular, wasteful and ridiculous wall.
This administration has separated families and incarcerated and tear gassed children. We urge Congress to deny the President any more funds for the border wall, border agents or detention beds. It’s time that Congress come together to work on real and smart solutions that address issues with our immigration system and the inhumane chaos that this administration’s policies have created at the border and throughout our country.
