Yesterday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a workplace raid at an electronic repair factory in Allen, Texas, outside Dallas. The operation at the Texas business, CVE Technology Group Inc, reportedly picked up more than 280 people, all of whom now face the possibility of deportation. Family members of those arrested had to gather around the building to receive updates on the fate of their family members.

Mario Carrillo, State Director of America’s Voice Texas, issued the following statement:

We condemn yesterday’s ICE activity in Texas. It is the latest effort by this administration to terrorize immigrant communities, drive them further into the shadows, and make the President look like a strongman to supporters of mass deportation. Everyone knows, including Donald Trump, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, the U.S. economy relies heavily on the labor of undocumented workers. ICE does these raids to intimidate immigrants, but in reality, everyone in the community suffers, starting with the workers and their families. What makes these types of actions all the more aggravating is that Donald trump is Hypocrite in Chief and the Trump Organization is itself an employer of undocumented immigrants and in certain cases helped employees obtain false documents and even recruited undocumented workers overseas. Workplace raids like the one in Texas show the failure of Trump’s policies, the hypocrisy of his own involvement in employing undocumented workers, and the selective enforcement that gives cover to employers, terrorizes immigrant communities, and creates the false impression among American voters that we can or will deport our way to legality in our immigration system. All this pain inflicted for Trump’s political gain.
