More than 30 Leaders Arrested on Capitol Hill to Protest Unjust Immigration Policies & Send Message that Fight for Immigrant Families Has Been Escalated
America’s Voice Founder and Executive Director Frank Sharry was one of more than 30 immigrant rights, labor, faith and other leaders who were arrested this morning as part of an immigration-related civil disobedience action on Capitol Hill. The leaders are protesting unjust immigration policies and sending a message to House Republicans that the fight for immigrant families has been escalated and will continue until the House moves forward on legislation that contains a path to citizenship and keeps families together.
The following is a statement from Frank Sharry:
I am proud to join my friends in this simple act of conscience. Immigration reform with a path to citizenship is a defining issue for our generation. It is time for the House leadership to stop dithering, delaying and denying a vote. It is time to let the bipartisan majority that exists in the House of Representatives today have a vote in favor of reform that includes a path to citizenship. It is time for Congress to do the people’s will and ensure that America lives true to its creed of ‘out of many, one.’
