Will he repeat his threats of shutting down the U.S./Mexico border which will have devastating consequences for Texans?
Austin, TX – Today, President Trump will visit Texas, with stops in San Antonio and Houston to discuss energy and infrastructure and attend fundraisers in a state that will very likely be in contention during the 2020 elections. He’ll undoubtedly touch on the issue of immigration, which remains front and center as his campaign for reelection takes shape.
Mario Carrillo, State Director of America’s Voice Texas issued the following statement:
Donald Trump’s visit to Texas comes at a time when his popularity continues to wane in a state that has been at the forefront of his anti-immigrant, deterrence-only, and family separation policies. Texans don’t favor Trump’s wall; they don’t support the chaos at the border that Trump’s policies have augmented; and the impact on landowners and communities along the border from El Paso to Brownsville. Trump’s constant threats of shutting down the border have already created a slowdown in commerce in our state.
Yet as Texas remains in the crosshairs of the administration’s most appalling policies and as Trump maligns our border communities with flat out lies, Texas Republican leaders like Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn have done nothing to protect our land owners, our economy from a border shutdown and our reputation from Trump’s continual attacks against our state. They repeatedly choose Trump over Texans, no matter the cost.
