“Rather than platitudes … Senator Cornyn should do the work and call for a vote to actually legalize Dreamers”
Sen. John Cornyn, locked in a tough reelection bid in Texas, is still facing fall-out from his Spanish language ad claiming he “strongly supports legalization for Dreamers.” PolitiFact judged his claim a half-truth and their story on Cornyn’s record contained this gem of a quote from a Cornyn spokesman, Drew Brandewie, “One can support legalization without supporting or voting for the DREAM act,” the bill which gives Dreamers their name.
As America’s Voice has pointed out, the Senate’s Number Two Republican, a member of the Judiciary Committee, voted against legal status for Dreamers in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2018, which less than offsets him saying supportive things about legalizing Dreamers. We have labeled the distance between what Sen. Cornyn says and how he votes the “Cornyn Con,” or in Spanish, “La Farsa Cornyn.”

A standalone bill to legalize Dreamers passed the House of Representatives in 2019, yet John Cornyn refuses to tell Sen. Mitch McConnell to bring it up for a vote.
John Cornyn could do this. Today. But he won’t. Because he’s lying. Texans deserve leaders. John Cornyn is not one.
Rather than platitudes on legalizing Dreamers in Spanish language campaign ads when he is in trouble, Senator Cornyn should do the work and call for a vote to actually legalize Dreamers.
