Weeks from Election Day, Senate Candidate Beto O’Rourke leans into immigration, paves progressive path in effort to attract new voters in Texas

AUSTIN, TX – With less than 20 days from midterm elections, Senate Candidate Beto O’Rourke just released an ad calling on a permanent solution for young immigrants that would provide them a path to citizenship, something that the vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, support.

This message is in stark contrast to Republicans attack ads that demonize immigrants and Latinos, and vow to ramp up deportations of millions of people, a policy straight from Donald Trump’s playbook.

O’Rourke’s ads came ahead of an endorsement from United We Dream, the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the country, and a new study from the Jolt Initiative, that shows the issue of citizenship for undocumented people being high on the list of priorities for young Latinos in Texas.

Mario Carrillo, Texas State Director of America’s Voice issued the following statement:

Beto O’Rourke’s ads provide a stark contrast to Republicans who continue to sink to new lows with their attack-ads on immigrants. O’Rourke shows that even in a state that has historically been Republican, you can inspire people with a campaign that is unapologetically pro-immigrant, and emphasizes the vast contributions that immigrants have made to Texas.

Being in favor of a Dream Act and against family separations go in line with how the vast majority of Americans also feel, and we encourage other candidates to also endorse policies that represent the best of America.
