This week, President Trump will request $6.6 billion to fund his nationwide deportation force, new detention centers, and a massive infrastructure increase at the border (read: stupid border wall) – all to implement his mass deportation blueprint.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has staked out a strong stance, promising to stand up against Trump’s efforts to get taxpayers to foot the bill for the GOP border wall and deportation force:
If Republicans insist on inserting poison pill riders such as defunding Planned Parenthood, building a border wall, or starting a deportation force, they will be shutting down the government and delivering a severe blow to our economy.
Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice, said:
During his first weeks in office, President Trump has unleashed chaos at our airports and in our communities. He’s banned refugees and Muslim visitors from entry, sent ICE agents out to raid homes and rip families apart, and detained Dreamers and other immigrants with deep roots in the United States. Just imagine what he would do with this additional funding. Fortunately, Senator Schumer and the rest of the Democrats in Congress are staking out a strong stance against funding Trump’s Executive Orders. We salute them for their leadership. They are standing up to Trump’s immigration budget, because they rightly believe that our tax dollars should be spent combating poverty, expanding access to healthcare, and promoting public safety – not on separating American families and building a stupid wall. Furthermore, Democrats in Congress are standing strong because they recognize that Trump’s radicalism on immigration is an assault on our values and identity as a nation.
