Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) is the latest in a long-line of conservatives who are spewing some anti-immigrant hate directed at the President’s latest move to protect DREAMers from deportation. However, like most people who don’t know what they’re talking about, Rep. Joe Walsh is belligerent thinking that he knows exactly what he’s talking about.
At a town hall meeting in Elmhurst, Illinois, Joe Walsh ranted, somewhat nonsensically, via Chicagoist:
“…I was on one radio station and I said ‘My god, he’s a tyrant.’ I don’t know what else you call him. I don’t want to give him that credit because I don’t think he’s smart enough. I think he’s only doing this because he’s campaigning, that’s all the guy knows. So I don’t want to call him a tyrant, because he really isn’t smart enough to know what that means. But in one fell swoop he just made 800,000 illegal immigrants, let’s call it legal, and gave them the ability to work here legally.”
Watch:
From the video, it’s apparent that Rep. Joe Walsh is the one who is not smart enough to know what “tyrant” means.
It’s too much to ask that Walsh and his colleagues take into consideration that earlier this month, nearly one hundred law professors signed on to a memo to the White House that outlined the legal mechanisms by which the President has the power to grant relief to undocumented immigrant youth. And last year, twenty-two US Senators urged the President to grant deferred action to DREAMers.
Not to mention, Walsh is out of touch with the majority of Americans who favor Obama’s move:
- Bloomberg Polling Finds Public Supports DREAMer Protections By 2:1 Margin
- New Jersey Voters Overwhelmingly Support Provisions of the DREAM Act
- Latino Voters Supportive of Policy, More Enthusiastic About Obama After Announcement
- Latino Voters Less Likely to Support Romney After Learning of His Immigration Stance
- Gallup Finds American Public More Positive on Immigration
So there you have it. Joe Walsh’s screams of Obama’s “tyranny” have left us lamenting at his stupidity.
