On this week’s episode of “A is for America”, we spoke with Matt Hildreth, our Political Director here at America’s Voice. Labor Day has come and gone, which means that this year’s midterm elections are really ramping up in earnest now. Republicans across the country are running on Stephen Miller’s explicitly anti-immigrant strategy, even though we’ve seen in election after election that it doesn’t work. New American voters have been making headlines all year, yet NALEO reports that 60% of Latino voters have not been contacted about voting. (Interview begins at 12:00.)

It’s been a year since the Trump Administration tried to destroy DACA, but Judge Andrew Hanen last Friday surprisingly decided not to block the program for now (Dreamers who have never had DACA before still cannot apply). The Trump Administration is trying to get around the Flores settlement by proposing new regulations that would indefinitely imprison children and families at the border — and lower standards for care at detention facilities. You can comment on the Trump Administration’s new proposals for immigrant children and families here.

“A is for America” is a podcast which tells stories from the front lines of a changing America. Each week, we’ll be talking to advocates and experts working in immigration reform, immigrants’ rights, immigration politics, and the forefront of what it means to be a new American. Tune in next week for more.
