The following is a press release from PICO National’s Campaign for Citizenship:
Faith Leaders urge House GOP in Favor of Citizenship to Sign on as Cosponsors of H.R. 15
The following is a statement from Eddie Carmona in response to today’s op-ed from Congressman Jeff Denham (R-CA):
The PICO National Network is encouraged by Rep. Denham’s public support for comprehensive immigration reform with an earned path to citizenship. Now it is time he puts his words into action.
Through our work led by PICO’s affiliate Congregations Building Community in Rep. Denham’s district, we know his principles line up well with the bill released this week in the House of Representatives. We know other House Republicans share the same principles. We want to make it clear that H.R. 15 is blended, bi-partisan legislation and we are thankful for Members of the House who are doing their part to help push this debate across the finish line. It’s time for Republicans who support comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship to do the same. We hope that today’s op-ed means Rep. Denham will soon come out as a cosponsor for the bill.
This is a legitimate vehicle for moving forward on immigration reform in the House. Our federations, and the broader immigration reform movement, will continue to urge Speaker Boehner, and Congressmen Cantor and McCarthy, to allow a vote and hope to have the help of House GOP supporters. Our families and faith communities have waited long enough.
