In a bizarre tweet early Monday morning, John Cornyn stated that President Biden has “emphasized the humane treatment of immigrants, regardless of their legal status” in reference to those seeking asylum at our border. Although the sentiments are far from shocking considering Cornyn’s voting record on immigration, most members of the GOP generally make at least some small attempt to to hide their blatant racism and desire to impose inhumane policies.
Cornyn’s tweet immediately invoked outrage as many questioned this unexpectedly cruel take on how to help those at our border.
Migrants have the legal right to apply for asylum under US law, and to have their claims heard, regardless of their "status." Republicans think meeting these legal obligations is inherently bad. Oddly enough, some reporters seem to be treating the GOP stance as objective truth. https://t.co/BeL6cZoGVT

So, to recap, being humane is a bad thing? Is the solution to the arrival of large numbers of children—which has been happening periodically since 2014—to inflict more cruelty on children as deterrence?
Are we a nation that believes in humanitarian protections or not, Senator? https://t.co/GXNYFGBFOp

2. Since when is treating human beings humanely a bad thing?

Thank you @JohnCornyn for truthfully explaining a key difference between Democratic & Republican policy: Democrats want to keep our border safe & secure, but do care about the humane treatment of immigrants. Meanwhile, Republicans enjoy suffering of immigrants.
