U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., is upset with CNN’s Lou Dobbs for airing segments on the legitimacy of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.
Lou Dobbs is proving to be a huge embarrassment for CNN. This time, he may have finally gone too far.
Over the past couple weeks, Dobbs has taken up the cause of the extremist “birthers.” Those are the far right-wingers who claim Barack Obama wasn’t born in America, and, thus, isn’t constitutionally qualified to be president. Most of the birther talk has been limited to FOX and right-wing radio. But, Dobbs has jumped in with both feet.
Mario Solis-Marich writes: “The Most Trusted Name in News” has looked the other way as Dobbs made them cash by selling outright lies about the immigration debate. Will CNN officials continue to hide in their accounting suites as Dobbs makes believe that the President of the United States is “undocumented”?
Today the New York Observer reported that Lou Dobbs’ ratings have taken a severe nose dive. Plummeting over 30% this past year, Dobb’s ratings have left many speculating about the cause. Salon.com, in, “Lou Dobbs needs to fence in his audience,” writes: “Apparently accusing immigrants of spreading leprosy and alienating Hispanics just doesn’t make for good TV like it used to.”
Is anti-immigrant rabble-rouser and CNN loudmouth Lou Dobbs losing his marbles? At a minimum, he is losing whatever last shreds of credibility he used to possess. In response to President Obama’s major address on education in front of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Dobbs criticized the President in his Tuesday night broadcast for “making a decision to talk about a national initiative on education from the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which is effectively an organization that is interested in the export of American capital and production to Mexico and Mexico’s export of drugs and illegal aliens to the United States. This is crazy stuff.”
Contrary to claims of “only seeking to reduce illegal immigration,” CNN host Lou Dobbs joins Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio on the list of grumpy old men certain to turn any incident earthquakes and hurricanes included into their own personal tirade against immigrants. The goal of all this fear-mongering? Three words: publicity, fame, and money. Sheriff Joe welcomes controversy with his public tirades against not only immigrants but all Latino residents of Maricopa County. And in exchange, what’s the good sheriff getting for Christmas?
According to press reports the extreme, anti-immigration CNN commentator Lou Dobbs is contemplating a run for Governor of New Jersey next year. America’s Voice has launched a new website to tell the truth about Dobbs and pundits like him, who think they can stir-up waves of anti-immigrant hysteria and ride them all the way to the statehouse, the White House, or the Governor’s mansion.
Last week, U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) criticized the way cable TV host Lou Dobbs and others espouse inflammatory rhetoric and misinformation about immigration during their nightly broadcasts.
