A Miami-based Hispanic group is mounting a national campaign against conservative CNN talk-show host Lou Dobbs, urging the network to restrain what they call “his disparaging and inaccurate” remarks about Hispanic immigrants.

Democracia AHORA is the latest Hispanic group to have launched a campaign asking CNN to get rid of Lou Dobbs. They’re kicking their campaign off today with a scathing report that reveals that ninety out of the hundred Hispanic leaders interviewed feel that Dobbs has created a negative image of Hispanics. Politico reports:

Democracia Ahora is hoping the report inspires a grassroots movement aimed at executives at CNN’s parent company, Time Warner, to draw attention to what the group calls “frequent negative portrayals of Hispanics on the Lou Dobbs show.”

One of the country’s leading Hispanic organizations is launching a campaign designed to pressure CNN to rein in host Lou Dobbs.

Several Hispanic groups are calling on CNN to drop talk-show host and frequent illegal immigrant critic Lou Dobbs, who is broadcasting his radio show from a conference put on by what some activists refer to as a “hate group.”

This week, Media Matters, a media watchdog group, along with a number of civil rights, progressive advocacy, and national Hispanic organizations, have launched a campaign calling on CNN to drop Lou Dobbs. America’s Voice is a proud partner of the campaign and its website, which launched yesterday at www.DropDobbs.com.

As Media Matters notes, Lou Dobbs took the opportunity last night to pat Glenn Beck on the back for extreme comments on air that Obama is a “racist–” comments which caused dozens of advertisers to dump their ads on Beck’s program in August. Lou seems to be coming increasingly unhinged.

Today, a media watchdog group, Media Matters For America, just launched an open letter to CNN President Klein asking why in the world they would let one of their anchors headline for a recognized hate group, FAIR, during its DC rally this month. MMFA press statement: “Today, Media Matters for America President Eric Burns issued an open letter to CNN President Jonathan Klein regarding prime-time anchor Lou Dobbs’ scheduled appearance on September 15 and 16 at the “Hold Their Feet to the Fire” legislative advocacy event and rally sponsored by the anti-immigration organization Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)…”

Days after CNN President Klein refused to address Dobbs’ irresponsible and inflammatory birther coverage, supposedly in the interest of free speech, CNN reps are in the awkward position of defending the network’s alleged attempts to reign in free speech– in the form of stampimg out critical advertising on non-CNN networks.

“In other words, Mr. Dobbs’ audience has decreased 15 percent in total viewers and 27 percent in the demo since the start of the controversy. Maybe this will get CNN President Jon Klein’s attention. After initially attempting to put Dobbs’ birther madness to bed in an email that read, “It seems this story is dead- because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef,” Klein has had to go on the defensive as Dobbs continued to merrily dig himself a hole.” And, as SPLC reminds us, stirring up unfounded race-based fear is a dangerous game to be playing at a time when Americans are struggling to surmount some of the biggest economic challenges faced this century.
