In Newest Addition to OurHome.us, Perez Shares Story of Her Husband Marcos’ Deportation and Her Family’s Life Apart
This week, OurHome.us, a collaboration of United We Dream and the America’s Voice Education Fund, released the latest in a series of videos dedicated to telling the stories of those that stand to benefit from immigration reform.
This week’s video features Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Perez, a former Marine who was honorably discharged in 2009. Elizabeth has been fighting for five long years to reunite her family since her husband Marcos was deported to Mexico in 2010. She is a veteran with service-connected disabilities who is struggling alone to raise two boys without her husband by her side.
In the video, Elizabeth lays out exactly what life is like with Marcos gone. Says Perez, “All I want in my life is for Marcos to be here and we have the option of what we want to do… My home is what we had before he was deported. And I’m not going to live in a home again until he’s back. It’s just going to be living in houses and waiting.”
On Monday, May 4th, HOLA Ohio and the broader Cleveland community members will rally behind Elizabeth and her family, holding a 20-mile “Walk for Justice” and calling for the reunification of this American family. To learn more about the walk or to sign Elizabeth’s petition click here.
OurHome.us is a campaign by United We Dream and America’s Voice Education Fund. The site features American’s of all ages and from across the country who are personally affected by the current broken immigration system.
