Yesterday, U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) made a unanimous consent request on the Senate floor to immediately pass the Venezuela TPS Act of 2019. U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) objected on behalf of Senate Republicans.
In other words, Senate Republicans have no intention of actually helping Venezuelans whose lives continue to be endangered by the Maduro regime. Rather than uniting to pass permanent protections for hundreds of thousands of people, Senate Republicans would rather engage in petty and cruel antics.
