Nepal TPS Decision Deadline: April 25th (2 Days)

Honduras TPS Decision Deadline: May 4th (11 Days)

Dallas, TX – A Dallas News piece puts the spotlight on two specific immigrant populations – Nepalese and Honduran TPS holders – who are living in uncertainty as the Trump Administration is slated to determine whether or not to extend these country-specific TPS programs by April 25th and May 4th, respectively.

Key excerpts follow:

The Trump administration has yet another important immigration decision to make soon:  whether to end or extend temporary protections and work permits for Hondurans in the United States.

About 57,000 Hondurans could become the latest group to lose their temporary protected status, or TPS. That includes about 9,000 Hondurans in Texas.

Still remaining are decisions on Honduras and three other countries: Nepal, Somalia and Yemen. A decision on about 9,000 Nepalese TPS holders, who live mostly in New York, is expected by April 25.

TPS was first given to Hondurans in January 1999 after a hurricane ravaged the country, killing about 7,000.

TPS has its supporters, who want the humanitarian program maintained and argue for rigorous reviews of conditions in countries recovering from natural disasters or with escalating violence.
