The following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice, regarding Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s resignation:
Through lies, misdirection and rationalizations, Nielsen defended the indefensible and presided over policies, including family separation, that will live in infamy. While she will not be missed, we have no illusions that her replacement will usher in a brighter day at DHS. As long as the Trump administration insists on dehumanizing immigrants and refugees and fails to respect the foundational ideals of the American experiment, we will continue to fight the Trump administration’s strategies — approaches as cruel as they are inept.
