America’s Voice Education Fund Responds to House Passage of HR 2213

“We won’t forget.”

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed HR 2213, a bill that will allow President Trump to lower the hiring standards for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents, an agency already notorious for its corruption.

According to Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice Education Fund,

We are not surprised that Republicans are helping Trump build up his Deportation Force and weakening professional standards to do so. We find it outrageous, however, that 51 Democrats* are complicit in expanding what is arguably the most corrupt and unaccountable law enforcement agency in the federal government. We won’t forget. As future reports of corruption and abuse become known, we will point out who aided and abetted an unnecessary buildup of CBP and an unwarranted weakening of hiring standards.

For a quick reminder of the necessity of polygraph tests for CBP applicants, see Andrew Becker of the Center for Investigative Reporting’s piece “On Polygraph Tests, Would-Be Border Patrol Agents Confess to Crimes.”
