Celebrities such as Julianne Moore, Cynthia Nixon, and John Leguizamo are among those modeling fedoras in efforts to support “Fedoras for Fairness,” a photo project backing up the fight for immigration reform.
The fedoras are intended to symbolize the diverse roles that women have in the community, while also lifting up the fight for immigration reform and equality among women. Along with the photographs, Moore, Nixon, and Leguizamo along with others have spoken out about their own connections to immigrants and have stressed the importance of reform on the immigration front.
“My mother left Cuba to come to the United States by herself. She was an eight year old undocumented immigrant,” says the actor Bobby Cannavale in one shot. View some of the “Fedoras for Fairness” photos here.
“Fedoras for Fairness” was created by We Belong Together, which is a campaign whose goal is to reach out to women and rally them in support of immigration reform. They have traveled to places such as Arizona, Alabama, Georgia, and the U.S.-Mexico border to see how anti-immigrant laws have affected and separated families.
The goal is to not only inform about the consequences of anti-immigrant laws, but also to push immigration reform that supports the equality of women, and a pathway for citizenship to the 11 million immigrants living in the U.S.
