Dreamers and advocates in seven Texas cities today took to the streets, dropping banners over highways and making it clear that Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is a “Dream Killer”.
Sen. Cornyn is infamous in the immigration reform world for always saying nice things when it comes to immigrants and Dreamers — and acting against them every time. That’s why we’ve called him the “biggest hypocrite” on immigration and named the “Cornyn Con” after him. Most recently, Cornyn introduced an anti-immigrant bill with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), which paired incredibly weak protections for Dreamers with extremely restrictionist proposals which would lead to less immigration and more deportations. As United We Dream said in a recent press statement:
Since Trump created a crisis by killing DACA, Cornyn has obstructed the path forward, killing the dreams of more than 2 million young immigrants who reject the mentality that in order to give protection to some, others must be criminalized and deported.
Today, in New Braunfels, Tyler, Laredo, Austin, El Paso, Dallas, and Houston, Dreamers made it clear that Cornyn can no longer be allowed to play with their lives, and demanded that he stop blocking the Dream Act immediately.
