A new ABC News/Washington Post poll is the latest in a long line of recent polling that shows deep, broad, and consistent support for Congress delivering a solution on behalf of Dreamers. The new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds:
- By an 87-11% margin, the public supports protecting Dreamers (70% strongly, 17% somewhat).
- Core Republican voters are strongly pro-Dreamer. As the accompanying ABC News article summarizing the poll notes, core Republican and Trump voters are “two-thirds of strong conservatives, three-quarters of evangelical white Protestants and as many Republicans, core Trump groups.
- 63 percent overall oppose a U.S.-Mexico border wall, “essentially unchanged since before the 2016 election” according to the poll summary article.
- Meanwhile, merely 36% approve of Trump’s job performance as president.
Polling consistently shows overwhelming pro-Dreamer sentiment among the public. For example, December 2017 polls from CNN, Marist, and CBS News, and both December and January 2018 polls from Quinnipiac, each found that between 81% and 86% of the public, including between 67% and 76% of Republican respondents, back efforts to keep Dreamers here in America and gaining legal status.
