On a Wing and a Prayer, Solon Mom Avril Burg Signs Up to Organize Cleveland “Families Belong Together” Rally June 30; Follow @BelongCle
Cleveland, OH — Avril Burg of Solon cannot stand to see children suffering. As she learned more about the Trump Administration’s “family separation” policy on immigration, she was motivated to not only speak out against it but to take action.
Avril found the Families Belong Together website and, without hesitation, submitted an offer to host a rally in Cleveland as part of a national day of action on June 30. That one simple step set a chain of events in motion, culminating in a rally taking place on Public Square this Saturday at 10am. See @BelongCle on Twitter to follow the action.
A mom, performer, and nutrition counselor, Avril has never organized anything like this before. But, she has a track record of helping kids and a passion for her community. That’s why Avril is joining forces with groups such as Action Together Lakewood Area, America’s Voice Ohio, Cleveland Jobs With Justice, Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus, District 14 Voice, Indivisible CLE, IRTF-Cleveland, Lorain County Rising, and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio, to plan the event.
In light of recent immigration raids at Corso’s Flower and Garden Center and Fresh Mark plants in Ohio, the issue of forced family separation has become even more acute for Ohio children.
The rally will take place this Saturday, June 30, at 10am in Cleveland’s Public Square. Los Niños de Corso’s, a group of teens organizing donations and other needs for families impacted by the recent raids, will speak at the event and sell t-shirts to raise money for families. Additional speakers and program details will be announced at the event’s Facebook page here.

The Cleveland event will take place on the same day as ten other events across Ohio, and well over 100 across the United States. Ohio events are planned for 10am in Cleveland; Columbus; Delaware; 11am in Bowling Green; Cincinnati; Dayton; Oxford; and Toledo; noon in Oberlin and Portsmouth; and 1pm in Norwalk. Check the national website for updates and information on events happening in neighboring states.
