Washington, DC — Ahead of President Biden’s speech in Nevada this afternoon and in response to the White House announcement of new progress and details following last month’s immigration executive actions, Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, issued the following statement:
“The Biden administration continues to build on last month’s decisive actions to protect and keep American families together and provide new opportunities for Dreamers to continue to build their futures in this nation. These are common sense measures broadly supported by the American public, advancing core American values and vital national interests. Eighty percent of undocumented immigrants have lived in the U.S. for a decade or more, and allowing those who are eligible to continue down a path to citizenship makes all the sense in the world. The newest set of policy details and next steps show the administration is committed to turning its promise into effective implementation.
This set of actions and Biden’s speech in Nevada today also offer a chance to refocus on the sharp contrast with the RNC and the ugly anti-immigrant lies, disinformation and promises of mass deportations being touted on the Milwaukee stage. Instead of deporting long-settled immigrant family members who have lived here for a decade or more or have been part of the DACA program for Dreamers, as Trump and allies are proposing, Americans strongly support keeping Dreamers and American families together and thriving in this nation.”
