Texas Reps. Hurd, Barton, and Flores: You Have Failed 124,000 Young Texans By Not Pushing for a Fix For Dreamers

Texas Members of Congress will be on notice in January

Austin, TX – Last night, Congress approved a three-week continuing resolution that will keep the government open until January 19, 2018 without including legislation to protect Dreamers. Three Texan Republicans, Will Hurd (TX-23), Bill Flores (TX-17), and Joe Barton (TX-06), all signed a letter to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, urging him to take up a legislative fix for DACA recipients before the end of the year.  And yet, all three voted for the spending bill without that legislative fix.

This is an immediate crisis for many Dreamers. More than 100 Dreamers are losing their DACA status every day that Congress fails to act, and if there is no action by March 5, 2018, that number will increase to 10,000 per day.

Mario Carrillo, Director of America’s Voice Texas said:

More than 124,000 DACA-recipients from Texas will have to spend this holiday season with their families surrounded by uncertainty because of the inaction of Congress.

The fight now moves on to January, and Texans will continue to put pressure on Congress. We will not forget those who have stood with Dreamers and those who turned their backs on them.

Reps. Hurd, Flores, and Barton – and the rest of the Texas delegation – are on notice in 2018. Will they lead on an issue that the vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, support, or will they go against the values that so many hold so dear? Texans will be watching closely.
