Our political leaders should be doing everything in their power to encourage everyone in this country to come forward and be part of the collective response to our national health crisis. The best way we can protect the public’s health is to recognize that, no matter where we come from or what we look like, we’re all in this together.
This means ensuring that in our national effort to combat and respond to the coronavirus pandemic, immigrants and other vulnerable populations need to be included, not excluded.
Unfortunately, many of our political leaders, starting with the President, are turning to xenophobia as a political strategy. This is no time for finger pointing, scapegoating and stoking fears about ‘the other.’ All of us have a role to play in ensuring that we pull together in this time of crisis.
