The following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director at America’s Voice following the conclusion of the Republican National Convention:
Whew. We’re sure glad that’s over. Let’s leave all that in the rear view mirror. It’s time to double down on the work ahead to consolidate the majority determined to achieve a better, more confident, more unified America.
A multiracial, multiethnic, multigenerational majority is coming together to rescue the American experiment from the grip of the Trump family grifters and their enablers. After a week of racist dog-whistles, xenophobic fearmongering and make-believe moderation, it’s time to dismiss the trolling Trumps, recognize that the people that put us in the ditch are the worst people to get us out of it, and focus on where we want to head as a nation.
For America’s Voice, we know the profound differences between cruel and cynical Trump-Pence on immigration and the fair and humane Biden-Harris platform. Trump and Stephen Miller want to drive 11 million deeply-rooted undocumented immigrants out of the country, while a Biden-Harris administration promises to prioritize legislation to create a roadmap to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants.
Biden and Harris see immigrants as neighbors, essential workers and valued members of the national family who should be formally recognized as the Americans they already are. Trump publicly demonizes undocumented immigrants as threats while privately hiring and exploiting undocumented immigrants for private gain. For those of us who want real progress on long-overdue challenges, justice for immigrant families is on the ballot this year, and the choice could not be clearer.
(see here for a recent roundup of polls showing the strong support for a permanent solutions for the 11 million undocumented immigrants.)
