New ReportRebuilding From Rubble: Why TPS is Needed for Nepal

Decision Deadline for Nepal TPS: 4/25/2018 20 days

This week, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC) compiled and published a comprehensive report regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nepal. The report effectively lays out background and provides context for just how critical this life-saving immigration program has proven to be for nearly 9,000 Nepali TPS holders living in the United States.

As the report notes, Nepal was designated for TPS in June 2015, after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck less than 50 miles from the capital of the country, which is home to about 25% of Nepal’s entire population.

Ultimately, the report calls on the Administration to continue to extend TPS for Nepal, as long as conditions persist that prevent the country from being able to safely return nationals, as is consistent with United States law.
