Later today, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on the HEROES Act. America’s Voice strongly recommends a “Yes” vote.

The following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice:

The HEROES Act is an urgently-needed bill that recognizes that the way for all of us to conquer the virus is to include all of us in the emergency response.

At a time when Republicans’ top legislative priority is shielding big corporations from legal liability and shielding the President from criticism, the HEROES Act gets the policy specifics right and puts the focus of the recovery where it should be – on the safety and support of the American people, and on the essential role frontline workers play in  keeping us safe, keeping us fed, and keeping us moving forward together. We, as a grateful nation, should treat them as the essential members of the American family they already are.

  • Everyone of us should be tested and treated, regardless of immigration status, because our public health response to a killer virus is only as strong as our weakest link.
  • This includes support for tax paying citizens in mixed status families throughout America, many of whom are doing their part and risking their lives on the frontlines.
  • All DACA, TPS and essential workers should be able to continue working in vital roles on the frontlines of COVID-19 response on behalf of all of us.
  • All waiting and approved to pledge allegiance to the American flag should be able to take their oath of citizenship at remote naturalization ceremonies.

At the end of the day, the choice is binary. We either act or we delay. We either respond to this once-in-a-century crisis with bold action or we delay and play politics. This crisis affects all of us. For our response to be effective, our response needs to include all of us.

Vote ‘yes’ on this important legislation and vote against any maneuvers or amendments to weaken or delay it.
