Today the Senate is considering the confirmation of the Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Kevin McAleenan. America’s Voice is recommending a NO vote on his confirmation.
Of particular concern, under McAleenan, CBP detained Rosa Maria Hernandez, a 10 year girl with cerebral palsy who crossed a checkpoint in an ambulance on her way to emergency gallbladder surgery, and they forced the prolonged separation of Ms. L, a Congolese asylum seeker from her 7-year-old daughter.
According to Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice, “During his time as Acting Commissioner of CBP, Kevin McAleenan proved that he is another of President Trump’s puppets, who will stop at nothing to harm immigrants. Mr. McAleenan has aggressively prosecuted President Trump’s assault on immigrants and asylum-seekers. A vote against McAleenan is a vote in favor of American values and families.”
