“It’s time for ‘We the People’ to include all of us”
The following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice.
It’s time for ‘We the People’ to include all of us.
Today, House Democrats stood with the vast majority of Americans to pass legislation to formally recognize millions of undocumented immigrants as the Americans they already are.
This is a settled debate. The American people want action, not excuses. We know Dreamers as our friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers. The story is the same for TPS holders and farmworkers. They live in our communities, serve our communities and enrich our communities.
Yes, this is a matter of justice. It’s also a matter of justice that has been delayed and denied for far too long.
In this Congress, we who believe in democracy, equality and justice are confronted with existential choices. Democrats, seize the moment. We must remain a democracy rather than yield to the GOP’s countermajoritarian project. We must have a government that helps all of us, not just some of us. And we must extend citizenship to those who fulfill all the obligations of citizenship every day, but with none of the rights.
This is the year we legalize millions. This is the year we use every ounce of power to take giant steps towards the promise of equality for all. It’s up to the Senate now to follow through.
