Sen. Dick Durbin continued his ongoing efforts to share the stories of DACA recipients, last Friday lifting up the story of Javier.
Like many other DREAMers, Javier didn’t know he was undocumented until he tried to apply for financial assistance in order to attend college. Without DACA, higher education would have remained out-of-reach for Javier. Now he is now a Harvard sophomore majoring in computer science.
Sen. Durbin has shared numerous DACA stories like these (click here for more), and last week announced that he and Sen. Lindsey Graham will introduce the Bridge Act, which if passed would provide “provisional protected status” for DACA youth.

Javier is now a sophomore at @Harvard majoring in computer science. Thanks to #DACA, he’s supporting himself by working as web developer

If #DACA is eliminated, Javier will lose his legal status & he could be deported back to Mexico, where he hasn’t lived since he was 4yrs old

Will America be a stronger country if we deport Javier or if he stays here and becomes a computer scientist? The answer is obvious pic.twitter.com/yaumT6dqg3
