“Out Of Touch”: Immigration Advocates React To Last Night’s Republican Primary Debate On Twitter

Last night’s Republican debate in Milwaukee featured an extended discussion on immigration — check out a longer take from America’s Voice here — including Donald Trump praising “Operation Wetback,” one of the darkest periods in American history.

While many noted Jeb Bush and John Kasich deserved credit for speaking up against the disturbing mass deportation plan pushed by Trump, it wasn’t lost on advocates that both Bush and Kasich also oppose the executive actions that would protect up to five million undocumented immigrants from deportation.

Both Bush and Kasich’s home states of Florida and Ohio are part of the Republican-led lawsuit blocking DAPA and the DACA expansion.

Meanwhile, others noted that Marco Rubio — once upon a time the co-author of the Senate’s 2013 comprehensive immigration reform bill — largely avoided addressing the topic of immigration at all, certainly aiding his recent attempts to cover up his tracks regarding his lurch to the right on immigration.

“Marco Rubio: Do you or don’t you support Trump’s insane mass deportation plan?” asked Kerry Eleveld of the Daily Kos earlier today.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaand, we’re done on immigration? Rubio said nothing,” tweeted Mario Carrillo of United We Dream. “Tell us about your DACA plan Marco!”
