Congress must pass a 2018 spending package before December 22nd, and advocates across the nation are trying to make it crystal clear to members of Congress that they must attach the Dream Act to any spending bill.
On Saturday, advocates in Cleveland, Ohio held a rally to communicate the importance of the Dream Act to Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Dreamers braved snow and cold to talk about how DACA has impacted their families and lives, and hold up signs listing the expiration dates of their DACA status and work permits.
There are nearly 4,500 DACA recipients in Ohio, and it is estimated that the Dream Act would make it possible for 10,000 young immigrants to obtain legal employment. This would expand the state’s GDP by $92 million.
