Tomorrow, United We Dream (UWD) is hosting rallies, marches and protests as part of its “Right to DREAM” campaign’s National Day of Action. Frustrated with the Obama Administration, undocumented youth around the country are calling on President Obama to keep families together and use his executive powers to protect DREAMers from deportation.
In a press advisory the group released ahead of a call that UWD is hosting tomorrow, the group explains the reason for the energy behind its day of action:
In the first three years of the Obama Administration, the immigrant community has experienced more deportations than under President Bush or any other President, causing unspeakable pain for Latino and immigrant families – communities the President is especially interested in appealing to this year.
Despite promises for reform and a moderate deportation policy, the deportations have continued unabated. The President must shift his record and DREAMers around the country will rally this week to call on him to grant them relief.
The support for the DREAM Act is both public and political. Last year, twenty-two Senators co-signed a letter to the President urging him to grant administrative relief for DREAMers. This week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) expressed hope that relief is coming soon from the White House. Polls also show it is supported by 70% of all Americans and 85% of Latinos.
“Clearly, the President has the authority to act but the Administration has refused to reverse course,” states UWD.
