Our President Should Give us Confidence, Not Create Chaos
The scope of President Trump’s radical executive orders issued last week are staggering. One week into his presidency, and Trump already has created a Deportation Force and a blueprint for mass deportation, and implemented a cruel, unconstitutional, and reckless Muslim and refugee ban that is sowing chaos across the globe while undermining national security and our reputation as a world leader.
In a statement below, Lynn Tramonte, Deputy Director of America’s Voice Education Fund, addresses the response to date:
“America, This is what a Deportation Force looks like. And, this is only the beginning of what Trump has planned.
Just one week into his presidency, Trump’s Deportation Force is locking out people who have been cleared to enter the United States, creating a Constitutional crisis, giving fuel to our nation’s enemies, and hurting real people.
The cruelty and chaos on display at our nation’s airports due to the Muslim and refugee ban will soon spread into American communities, due to another mass deportation executive order issued earlier last week.
The President of the United States should provide stability, not create chaos, and give us confidence, not shake our faith. Yet President Trump, and the nativist trio of Steve Bannon, Jeff Sessions, and Stephen Miller, are recklessly implementing their anti-immigrant ideology without consideration or care for its implications. Their actions do violence to core principles of our country and make us less safe in the process.
The outpouring of support for refugees and immigrants on display across America is organic and sustaining. We are in a fight for our nation’s soul, and Americans are rising up to protect our free and open democracy. Their strength only confirms our belief that one day soon, good will prevail.”
