Donald Trump was the most anti-immigrant president in modern history who used his time in office to enact cruel and inhumane policies. In 2020, our multiracial, multiethnic, multigenerational majority chose a new America.
As we prepare for a new administration and era in American politics, many immigrants and advocates took to social media to express their hope, relief, and joy.
Here are some of our favorite responses:
This is only the beginning. Today, we cry a little more and keep on fighting. And on a personal note, I thank the movement that built me to experience this day. La Lucha Sigue!

Today, we see our leaders walking through the crypt. A place I’ve stood at and wondered HOW!? Every President since it was placed has walked on the star before becoming inaugurated, less than 3 weeks ago we saw vile people fighting on this same spot.
Democracy must go on. pic.twitter.com/zqnPec20A6

I know it’s kind of early to have a drink but I’m enjoying this moment having a glass of Prosecco. I’m taking in the joy & relief that I will no longer have to wake up to another attack on immigrants.
Yes I’m crying, but these are tears of joy and resilience. Cheers! Salud! pic.twitter.com/atedFOv624

On Day One of the Biden-Harris administration, 1 in 3 incoming appointees is an immigrant or a child of immigrants.
This immigrant — and proud naturalized citizen — is ready to get to work for @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris & the American people.
Immigrants. We get the job done. 🇺🇸

Today, we're gonna see the first Latina Supreme Court Justice swear in the first Black, South Asian woman Vice President of the United States.
And it's gonna be beautiful.
