Washington, DC – America’s Voice (AV) and America’s Voice Education Fund (AVEF) announced two new hires coming on in senior positions. Joseph Tiang-Lau Liu started in late July as the Managing Director of the two sister organizations and Kenneth A. Sandoval joined Aug. 7 as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director, Vanessa Cárdenas.

Joe Liu brings three-decades of experience in the non-profit, philanthropic and political sectors, most recently as Director of Campaign Strategy and Management at AARP. At AV and AVEF, Liu will concentrate on campaign development and managing the staff and consultants.  He was born in Taiwan and emigrated to the U.S. with his family as a child and is now a U.S. citizen.

Kenny Sandoval was most recently at VotoLatino, were he served as Vice President for Campaigns and Partnerships, managing the organization’s strategic, corporate, and political partnership portfolio. He also worked in the Obama White House as Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the White House Counsel, and at various non-profit, campaign and political organizations. At AV and AVEF, Sandoval will take on special projects and help Executive Director Vanessa Cárdenas advance the communications and political work of the organizations and the pro-immigrant movement. He is a native of New Mexico.

Vanessa Cárdenas, who took over as Executive Director of both AV and AVEF at the end of last year from founder Frank Sharry, said Liu and Sandoval are part of the organizations’ growth. “With immigration and immigrants constantly under attack, we need to bring in more capacity and strength to the pro-immigrant movement,” Cárdenas said. “We are expanding the reach and capabilities of our C-3 and C-4 sister organizations so that we tell the real story of immigrant communities and defend the fundamental fact that immigration is part of who we are as a nation and immigrants are key to our collective prosperity. Joe and Kenny both bring a wealth of experience from different parts of the non-profit and political sectors, we are thrilled to add their expertise to our very talented team.”

America’s Voice and America’s Voice Education Fund build the public support and the political will needed to enact policy changes that secure freedom and opportunity for immigrants in America. Our priority goal is to win reforms that put 11 million undocumented Americans on a path to full citizenship. We are also leaders in tracking the anti-immigrant – and often hateful – rhetoric of opponents of immigration inside and outside of government and holding politicians in both parties accountable on a range of immigration issues, while specializing in helping the pro-immigrant movement communicate more and communicate more effectively.
