“To effectively confront a crisis that affects all of us, we need to respond with a strategy that includes all of us”
This evening, as the House of Representatives considers H.R. 6800, the HEROES Act, Republicans have offered an amendment – known as a Motion to Recommit – in an attempt to gut the overall legislation.
The following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice:
America’s Voice strongly recommends a “no” vote against the GOP Motion to Recommit.
To effectively confront a crisis that affects all of us, we need to respond with a strategy that includes all of us.
This MTR targets millions of American citizens, most of them children, who would be excluded from the nation’s COVID-19 response package’s stimulus checks. Taxpaying families that include citizens and non-citizens should be treated the same as all other taxpaying families.
The Republican House is attempting to divide Democrats, thwart the urgently-needed legislation, and play election-year politics. But as a prominent Republican Senator, Marco Rubio (R-FL), said recently, “Somebody doesn’t lose their citizenship or their rights as a citizen because they’re married to somebody who doesn’t have documents.”
We get through this crisis by coming together as one America. We call on House Democrats to lead by example.
