Washington, DC — The following is a statement from Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, reacting to immigration and last night’s presidential debate:
“Trump needs to answer the mass deportation question CNN moderator Jake Tapper asked, which is the single most consequential immigration topic of the 2024 campaign. Trump plans to separate millions of American families and deport the spouses of U.S. citizens, Dreamers and immigrants who have lived here for decades, turning the military and the police into show-me-your-papers force that would wreck communities and the economy.
We had hoped and called for a question to Trump about mass deportation, yet when asked exactly that, Trump refused to answer and pivoted to tell lies about immigrants. Trump needs to answer the question and the American people deserve to hear specifics about his destabilizing, radical plan.”
