PRESS EVENTS: Immigrant Community Activists and Allies Host more than 30 Events Nationwide Calling for #DreamActNow

Immigrant youth, local leaders, advocates, and allies are escalating their campaign for the Dream Act with rallies, marches, petition deliveries, and protests in 13 states to call for citizenship and protection for immigrant youth during Thanksgiving recess.

Poll after poll documents the overwhelming public support for undocumented youth: according to Quinnipiac, nearly 90% of Americans support a pathway to citizenship or legal status for undocumented youth. Now it’s time for Congress to listen to America, pass a clean Dream Act, and protect undocumented youth and immigrant families.

While some in the Trump Administration and the Republican Congress have suggested procrastinating until next year to solve this crisis, the simple fact is that DACA has already been terminated.  Delay is not an option for the hundreds of thousands of undocumented youth facing the consequences of that decision. An additional million undocumented youth who’ve made this country their home stand to gain protections, a pathway to citizenship, work authorization and more opportunities for the very first time with the Dream Act. There is no solution other than passing commonsense legislation that will give undocumented youth a path to residency and citizenship.

Congress must ensure that the Dream Act receives a vote before year’s end and should explore attaching Dream to every moving legislative vehicle in the coming weeks and months. That includes the upcoming disaster relief bills and the omnibus spending package that currently must pass by the end of the year..

Bottom line: If Congress has failed to solve the problem before December 8, they must include it in the end of year spending bill. Leaving town isn’t an option, nor is funding the means to deport undocumented youth and their families through appropriations.
