Massive Support Across USA for Enacting Clean Dream Act This Year

Dreamers and allies kicked off another vibrant week of action in our nation’s capital and beyond over the weekend, demanding that Congress do its job and pass the Dream Act before the end of the year.

From California and Ohio to Tennessee and Washington, DC, the positive contributions of America’s Dreamers will be on display all across the nation, and particularly in Washington, DC as Congress prepares to wrap up its end of the year business.

Members of Congress cannot and must not go home for the holidays without voting to fix the status of America’s Dreamers.

Events will be taking place in Washington, DC; California; Connecticut; Iowa; Illinois; Massachusetts; Michigan; Minnesota; Nevada; New Jersey; New York; Ohio; Oregon; Pennsylvania; and Texas – and are listed chronologically below (all time zones in local time)

Monday, December 4th & 5th Washington DC

UWD/SEIU will organize a delegation to the airport to greet members of Congress as they return to the Capitol.

United We Dream will have a continuous presence in DC with Dreamers from across the country until Congress enacts a Dream Act this year.  Each day Dreamers will  lead, join and participate in creative actions to street the urgency of passing a Dream Act.

Prayer Vigil/Rally for Dream Act

Evangelical leaders and Dreamers from across the country from the  Christian Community Development Association, Bread for the World, Sojourners, Evangelicals for Social Action, Urban Strategies, Red Letter Christians, World Relief, Freedom Road, & the Matthew 25 Coalition, Church World Service will hold a press conference and prayer rally led by pastors, alongside DACA recipients from their congregations, will share statements, pray and ceremonially take the 1,000’s of dreams collected from around the country and commit to bring them together to Congress. Follow up prayer outside Capitol offices is scheduled after the rally.

On December 5, 2017, more than a hundred Black and Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) immigrants will join forces for a day of action in Washington, DC to demand the passage of a clean Dream Act and a permanent solution for Temporary Protective Status (TPS) holders. Participants will visit Congressional and Senate offices after the press conference and deliver petitions to Speaker Ryan.

We Belong Together’s “Dream for the Holidays” campaign will deliver letters written to Congress from children and youth throughout the country. A delegation of kids and teens will deliver letters sharing their “Dream for the Holidays” with their Representatives in Congress and leadership in the House and Senate. The letters urge Congress to pass a clean DREAM Act and to protect immigrant families threatened by the elimination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) before Congress goes on break for the holidays. Members of Congress will receive letters or “coal” depending on whether they’ve been “naughty or nice” to children and immigrant families this year.
