Numerous recording artists and TV personalities team up with Defend Our Dreams to elevate the campaign and the urgency to pass a clean Dream Act before the end of the year
Los Angeles, CA – Support for legislation that would grant Dreamers a path towards citizenship continues to grow as celebrities will call on lawmakers to protect the young immigrants during EstrellaTV’s Premios de la Radio Awards.
The Spanish-language television network, part of LBI Media, is the latest organization to add its support to the Defend our Dreams Campaign, which seeks the passage of a clean Dream Act through Congress by year’s end.
“As a member of the Defend Our Dreams campaign, we welcome the support of Estrella TV and the Premios de la Radio Awards, to lift up this critical issue through this spectacular televised event,” said Cristian Avila, National Field Coordinator for Mi Familia Vota, “Our hope is that this special homage to our Latino community – held on such a prominent stage, in collaboration with these talented artists – will highlight the dire consequence of inaction, and urge Congress to pass the Dream Act before the end of the year.”
Premios de la Radio has consistently been EstrellaTV’s highest rated show of the year for the network and is the only awards show that honors, celebrates and recognizes Regional Mexican music in the U.S., still the highest grossing genre in Latin music.
“We are honored to elevate the work of the Defend Our Dreams campaign, and know that for our Latino community, actions speak much louder than words,” said Marco Antonio Gonzalez, Vice President, Public Relations & Corporate Affairs for LBI Media, “We stand in solidarity with Dreamers, and echo the sentiments of our community leaders on the need to push Congress for a final decision on the Dream Act before the end of the year.”
“This evening symbolizes a bright ray of hope in an otherwise dim situation. We are heartened by this partnership with EstrellaTV as it will allow us the raise awareness to a wider audience and remain steadfast in our commitment to winning citizenship and protection for immigrant youth, and continuing the fight to protect all of our communities. We thank the network for this unique opportunity and for advocating for the safety and protection of our families,” said Cristina Jimenez Executive Director & Co-Founder of United We Dream.
The Trump administration’s recent decision to end the DACA program has created an urgent situation for thousands of immigrant youth all across the country. Congress must now move swiftly to solve this issue before year’s end, and protect young Dreamers from possible deportation. This disastrous decision has come under criticism by numerous immigrant rights groups, small business leaders and private sector companies.
According to recent Quinnipiac poll, there is widespread support for Dreamers among all Americans, including Republicans – 88 percent and 79 percent respectively.
Premios de la Radio will broadcast live on EstrellaTV Network from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California on Thursday, November 9 at 8pm PST/ 7C. Tune in using hashtags #PremiosdelaRadio and #SomosDreamers to follow the conversation and see real-time updates on social media.
