New Site Exposes Lawmakers Who Have Aligned With Trump, Chronicles Continued Trump-Inspired Acts of Hate
For over a year, Donald Trump has used to the national spotlight to attack Latinos, immigrants and people of color—inspiring acts of violence and hate around the country. As the presumptive Republican nominee, he has doubled down on this rhetoric, most recently in his renewed attacks against Muslims and refugees following the tragic shooting in Orlando. Instead of standing up to Donald Trump and his extreme policies, the Republican Party by and large has fallen in line.
As party leaders prepare to head to their convention in Cleveland, a new website from America’s Voice calls it what it really is: the Republican Nativist Convention. The site lists the names and photos of Republican senators, governors, and members of congress who have been asked publicly about their position on Donald Trump and either support him or have not rejected his candidacy. It also chronicles instances of hate and violence inspired by Trump and his xenophobic rhetoric.
Said Lynn Tramonte, Deputy Director of America’s Voice, “Republicans capitulating to Trump must be held exposed and held accountable. If you are for Trump for President, you are for the expansion of hate. That’s a black mark on your record and this website will make it easier for Americans to keep track of where their leaders stand.”
