Underscores Marco Rubio’s Support for Ending DACA and Electing Trump

Washington – America’s Voice is launching a new Spanish language radio ad buy in Florida, narrated by Florida DREAMer Juan Escalante, encouraging members of the Latino community to get out and vote to protect DACA.

The ad, running on Miami and Orlando stations for the next two weeks, calls out Florida Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio for backing Donald Trump and Trump’s pledge to end DACA on day one of his presidency. The ad contrasts Rubio’s opposition with Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Patrick Murphy’s support for DREAMers. Click on the link to listen to the Florida Ad.

Below is the English language translation of the Florida ad:

“I wasn’t born in the United States, but I grew up here. This is country I love, but I can’t vote for its future. DACA, which Obama implemented, lets me work without fear of
deportation. However, Donald Trump has promised to eliminate it on his first day as president. Marco Rubio supports Trump. Patrick Murphy supports DREAMers. This November I am asking you, a citizen, to vote for me.”  America’s Voice paid for and is responsible for the content of this advertising. americasvoice.org. About Juan Escalante

Juan Escalante is the Digital Campaigns Manager for America’s Voice and America’s Voice Education Fund. Born and raised in Venezuela, Juan arrived in the United States in the year 2000, and became undocumented after his family’s attorney failed to provide proper counsel. For the past ten years, Juan has advocated for pro-migrant policies at the state and national level – most notably the federal DREAM Act. Juan is a beneficiary of President Barack Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and recently obtained a Masters Degree from Florida State University.

Issue Background

With their futures and opportunities on the line with this election, DREAMers are speaking out and directly engaging members of the Latino and immigrant communities to participate and vote on behalf of the DREAMers’ futures. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which President Obama established after pressure from DREAMers, benefits more than 35,000 Dreamers in Florida and 741,000 Dreamers across the country. Donald Trump has pledged to immediately end the program if elected president. Senator Marco Rubio fully supports Trump’s position and, during his failed presidential run, also pledged to end DACA on his “first day in office.”

The America’s Voice Florida Spanish language radio ad will be joined later this week by an ad running on Spanish language radio in Nevada.
