The following statement is a reaction from Lynn Tramonte, Deputy Director of America’s Voice, regarding the recent meeting between President-elect Donald Trump and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach:
“Kris Kobach dedicated the last decade and a half to dreaming up ways to make life miserable for immigrants, while basking in the applause of white nationalists. His racial profiling policies have proven ineffective and have been repeatedly struck down in the courts, including Arizona’s SB1070, the anti-Latino, anti-immigrant “show me your papers” law, as well as other state laws anchored in the concept of “self-deportation.”
“Similar to the nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions, apparently Kobach’s resume of extremism and racial animus qualifies him to serve in the Trump Administration. In an Administration already stacked with the likes of Donald Trump, Jeff Sessions and Steve Bannon, we can’t afford this normalization or mainstreaming of racism and hate.”
More information about Kobach’s anti-immigrant record is available here.
